Post Majority Worker - WWHO

Job Summary:
The Post Majority Worker provides essential support and advocacy for youth aged 18 and over who have transitioned from the child welfare system. This position is responsible for assisting young adults in successfully navigating their transition to adulthood and independent living, offering guidance in areas such as education, employment, housing, and life skills development. The Post Majority Worker plays a critical role in supporting youth in achieving stability, autonomy, and success, while ensuring that their safety and well-being continue to be prioritized.

Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

  • Provide case management services to youth (18–21) transitioning from the child welfare system.

  • Develop, implement, and monitor individualized service plans in collaboration with youth and service providers.

  • Advocate for youth in accessing community resources, including housing, education, employment, and health services.

  • Offer ongoing emotional support and life skills coaching to assist youth in developing self-sufficiency.

  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of youth progress and interventions.

  • Conduct regular assessments of youth needs, strengths, and goals.

  • Ensure youth have access to essential services and provide follow-up as needed.

  • Coordinate with internal and external agencies, including community organizations and educational institutions, to connect youth with available services.

  • Assist youth in creating and implementing transition plans that address their specific needs and post-majority goals.

  • Support youth in setting and achieving long-term personal goals such as further education, employment, and housing stability.

  • Provide guidance and mentorship in budgeting, time management, job readiness, and other life skills essential for independent living.

  • Offer crisis support when necessary, connecting youth to appropriate resources and services.

  • Work collaboratively with other child welfare professionals, counselors, and community service agencies to resolve conflicts and address youth needs.

  • Prepare progress reports for management, funding bodies, and youth’s support networks.

  • Track youth progress and make recommendations for continued support based on assessment findings.

  • Other duties as required and assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Degree in Social Work, Psychology, Child & Youth Care, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Minimum of 2 years experience in social services, youth work, or case management, especially with youth in the child welfare system or at-risk populations.

  • Experience in post-majority transition services, crisis management, and life skills coaching is an asset.

Knowledge Requirements:

  • Knowledge of child welfare policies, programs, and services in Manitoba.

  • Strong understanding of challenges faced by youth in the child welfare system and available resources.

  • Ability to build rapport and trust with youth, families, and community stakeholders.

  • Excellent communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills.

  • Familiarity with community resources, including housing, employment, and educational supports.

  • Empathy, patience, and a genuine commitment to supporting youth through challenges.

  • Strong advocacy skills with a focus on youth well-being.

  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.

  • High ethical standards and ability to maintain confidentiality.

  • Flexibility to work evenings or weekends if required.

  • Valid driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle (if applicable).

  • Satisfactory Criminal Record Check and Child Abuse Registry Check required.

  • Position is office-based with regular community travel.

  • Involves direct contact with youth, case management, and collaboration with service providers.
