Family Support Worker (Prevention)
Under a new Management Team, Waywayseecappo First Nation Child & Family Services is a First Nations CFS Agency who strives to recruit inspired, accountable, and driven individuals to join our diverse talented team of professionals. Reporting directly to the Prevention Supervisor, the Family Support Worker focus will be on prevention and strengthening the family unit.
Duties:
Provide administrative support to staff when required
Provide respite when required.
Assist Family Service Workers with emergency responses to children in care/ families as required
Gathers necessary case related information from sources and documents on file
Prepares written assessments from observing visits and forwards to Family Service Workers for file documentation
Document all data with respect to assigned families
As requested, transports, children/families as needed
As assigned, picks up supplies and equipment as needed
Maintain and report any issues with service vehicles
Upon request, accompany workers on home visits
Document all contacts with children/families on a weekly basis, forwarding case notes to supervisor
Promote a positive image of Waywayseecappo Child & Family Services
Participating regularly in community events and activities
Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Minimum grade twelve diploma
Preferred, two (2) years experience directly in the social services/child care profession
Excellent interpersonal, verbal, written and organizational skills
Respect for, sensitivity towards as well as knowledge and understanding of Ojibwe culture, traditions and the Seven Grandfather Teachings
Must be available to work flexible hours, when required.
Basic knowledge of the Child, Youth and Family Services Act

First Nations Representative

The First Nations Representative reports to the Executive Director of Waywayseecappo First Nation Child and; Family Services, Chief and council; will represent all Waywayseecappo First Nation Band membership children, regardless of location, before the courts; will ensure the heritage, cultural traditions, identity, and rights of Waywayseecappo First Nation children are protected and preserved by all parties involved in child welfare matters and working in conjunction with the current Band Representative.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Provides support, advocates for maintaining family units, advocates for satisfactory solutions to family problems, liaises with related service agencies, and explains the child and family service system.
Ensures effective delivery and monitors practices guided by relevant strategies to safeguard the children who are members of Waywayseecappo First Nation and involved with child welfare Agencies have their rights to their own culture and community protected and upheld.
Maintains a strong knowledge of the Child & Family Services Act, the policies and procedures of the Manitoba provincial standards, Customary Care Provision and Kinship Care as CFS options rather than apprehension, including completing and filing court forms, attending court appearances on behalf of Waywayseecappo First Nation, communicating with Chief and; Council, representing the interests of Waywayseecappo First Nation.
Liaise with other First Nation Band Representatives, Agencies and Legal Counsel.
Accompany child & family Service workers during investigations.
Ensure that Waywayseecappo First Nation band members fully know their rights.
Represent the First Nation at Court as a Party to Child Welfare proceedings.
Liaison with community services, including but not limited to the Family Well-Being Program, NAADAP, Mental Health Programs and visiting professionals to assess client(s) progress and suggest alternative plans if appropriate.
SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum three (3) years experience working in social services or related field in a First Nation.
Experience working with Indigenous people, organizations, and communities.
Knowledge and understanding of cultural sensitivity and traditional teachings.
Able to interpret legislation and legal documentation.
Knowledge of Case Management techniques
Strong demonstration of negotiation skills, techniques and advocacy
Excellent time management and strong organization skills; a multi-tasker
Excellent computer skills for reporting and presentation purposes and general office equipment knowledge.
Extensive knowledge of the Child and Family Services Act (CFSA), including An Act Respecting First Nations, Inuit and Metis Children, Youth and Families
Ability to establish and develop an active working relationship with all Child and Family Services

After Hours Worker
The incumbent is responsible for providing emergency service, responding to crisis situations and emergent safety and protection matters for children and families outside the regular day time office hours of Waywayseecappo Child and Family Services Inc on the First Nations community of Waywayseecappo. The After Hours (On Call) Worker will ensure the safety of children in the short term.
Some Duties Include but not limited to:
Be available to respond to after-hours calls between the hours of 5:00 pm to 9:00am, Monday to Friday, weekends and holidays through phone call or field visit (fielding).
Responds to all calls courteously and in a timely manner.
Ensures all necessary information is gathered and documented as per standards.
Ensures confidentiality of information being received and that of the caller.
Ability to provide services that are in line with Federal and Provincial CFS legislation and standards and operate within WWCFS mandate.
Assess situation and identify services required to ensure the safety of the children with the least disruption to the family unit.
Will be responsible to create an intake on CFSIS (Child & Family Services Information System) on any new matters or significant situations as per standards and/or as directed by the main office supervisor or the intake/abuse unit.
Will record call(s) in a detailed case recording.
Must be knowledgeable of the Child and Family Services Information System/Intake Module (CFSIS/IM).
Other duties as may be assigned by After Hours Supervisor.
Qualifications:
Minimum Grade 12 Diploma
Demonstrated understanding of and respect for the First Nations culture, traditions, and community values, particularly as they relate to child welfare and family dynamics.
Previous experience working within or in partnership with First Nations communities, especially in a child welfare, social services, or crisis intervention capacity.
Must have a valid Manitoba Drivers Licence, access to a vehicle and willing to travel.
Will provide a current Drivers Abstract.
Must pass Criminal Record Check, Vulnerable Sector Search, and Child Abuse Registry Check.
Ability to speak and/or understand the Ojibway language would be an asset.
Knowledge and respect of First Nations traditional culture and traditional philosophy.

Cultural Worker
Reporting to the Prevention Supervisor, this position is responsible for providing comprehensive culturally based care and support in the areas of mental wellness, addictions, trauma, sexual abuse, and violence for adults, youth and families. As part of a Land Based Healing Team, the Cultural Worker works closely with the Cultural Practitioners, Clinical Counsellors, and other contracted professionals to support the delivery of a range of land-based healing and aftercare programs and services to individuals and families who are under the care of Waywayseecappo First Nation Child & Family Services.
The primary focus of the Cultural Worker’s role is on the delivery of culturally relevant land based healing within the context of a continuum of care, and provides service from a client centred, family-centred, and community based perspective. This position works in accordance both with the established standards of professional, traditional and cultural practice, and in line with the vision and values of the Waywayseecappo First Nation.
Anishinaabemowin language is required for building family values; the development of cultural teachings, such as land based teachings, ceremonial teachings and infusing kinship family values.
Duties:
Assesses the needs of the individual in order to contribute to the development of counselling and support plans, which includes the person and other supports including family, community, other team members, resource people within Waywayseecappo First Nation;
Contributes to the development, implementation and evaluation of healing plans in conjunction with client, family, Clinical Counselling staff if appropriate and other helping agencies while establishing and maintaining relationships based on respect;
Provides individual, couple, family and group aftercare support, educational sessions,
Provides aftercare support for clients who attend substance misuse/trauma treatment programs, including land-based programming;
Attends case management meetings and case conferences with other care providers and family members as needed;
Participates in the evaluation and ongoing improvement of land-based healing programming.
Supports other members of the land-based healing team in the delivery of culturally based and appropriate prevention programs, services, activities and support to participants of healing camps.
Support the delivery of provider skill camps and mentorship opportunities for staff of other First Nations as required.
Participates in collaborative development of community based aftercare programs bringing knowledge of cultural, land-based and community traditions and methods;
Delivers aftercare services to clients involved with Waywayseecappo land-based programs, to those who may have attended healing camps or treatment delivered by other agencies
Collaborates with other providers to deliver culturally appropriate and land-based options to support individual aftercare goals; and
Participates in the evaluation and ongoing improvement of aftercare services.
Collaborates with community elders, cultural resources people and others;
Participates in team and staff meetings, and engages in on-going team planning, program development and evaluation;
Ensuring all files are properly maintained and kept up to date;
Recording of all communication and correspondence and ensuring it is on the appropriate paper/electronic file and is up to date;
Maintain competency through on-going cultural development activities and act as a resource person to other wellness workers, colleagues, clients and the community; and
Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Education in Counselling, Psychology, Social Work or similar is an asset
Significant experience supporting individuals, families and communities to access cultural teachings, ceremony and develop plans for traditional healing
Recent experience in community-based mental health and addictions related community outreach, prevention and aftercare support;
Recent experience coordinating and facilitating cultural and land-based activities;
Significant experience facilitating workshops and programming for groups and facilitation of groups.
Recent experience in cultural, land based and clinical modalities in prevention, healing and aftercare support services is an asset;
Experience working in a First Nation community is required.
Knowledge of Indigenous history, residential school impacts and familiarity with Waywayseecappo First Nation history, culture, goals and aspirations is required for success in this position.
